Due to concentrated and high volumes of waste generated in urban areas, waste management is needed to deal with waste in an efficient and sustainable manner. The waste management systems can be split into two categories - recyclatory (e.g. composting, biogas generation, mechanical recycling) and land filling (incineration, waste compaction). Waste management systems include material inputs (e.g. manpower, natural resources), service inputs (e.g. collection, waste treatment, finance, accounting, research & development, logistics) and regulatory agencies.
